Updated Marvel Ranking + Every Marvel Based Film

Last year I wrote a piece ranking every movie so far in the MCU. I didn’t plan to write another one or anything as only 2 more movies have been released since then, but following the release of Captain America: Civil War I posted a quick list on my Facebook page reflecting it’s position and a couple of re-evaluations I’ve had since re-watching a few of them too. This was the new list:

Updated Marvel Movie Ranking:

13) Iron Man 2
12) Avengers: Age of Ultron
11) The Incredible Hulk
10) Iron Man
09) Thor: The Dark World
08) Thor
07) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
06) Ant-Man
05) Captain America: Civil War
04) Iron Man 3
03) Guardians of the Galaxy
02) The Avengers
01) Captain America: The First Avenger

Almost immediately after posting this I got a question from a friend asking where Deadpool was. I said it was just a list of MCU movies and he then asked how I might rank every Marvel comics-based film. I then thought why not? I can probably make such a list. I’m afraid I’m not going to bother writing a paragraph for each movie but I’ll throw the list on this blog too.

By my count there are 48 movies in contention for this, but I’m afraid my list only counts 45. There’s the straight-to-video 1990 Captain America, the never released Roger Corman Fantastic Four and the SyFy channel Man-Thing movies that I haven’t seen so aren’t included.

When asked to quickly put together a list of quite a number of movies I have to admit that I referred back to star ratings I’d awarded when first viewing a lot of them. As there are some I haven’t seen in years I was a little surprised to see where some ended up in relation to others. I had to so a bit of moving things around.

45) The Punisher (1989)
44) Howard the Duck (1986)
43) Elektra (2005)
42) Blade: Trinity (2006)
41) Fantastic 4 (2015)
40) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
39) Ghost Rider (2007)
38) X-Men: Origins – Wolverine (2009)
37) Fantastic Four (2005)
36) Daredevil (2003)
35) The Punisher (2004)
34) The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
33) Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
32) Iron Man 2 (2010)
31) Hulk (2003)
30) Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
29) Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2012)
28) Punisher: War Zone (2008)
27) Kick-Ass 2 (2013)
26) Blade (1997)
25) X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
24) Spider-Man 3 (2007)
23) The Incredible Hulk (2008)
22) Iron Man (2008)
21) Thor: The Dark World (2013)
20) The Wolverine (2013)
19) Blade II (2002)
18) Thor (2011)
17) X-Men: First Class (2011)
16) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
15) Ant-Man (2015)
14) Deadpool (2016)
13) X-Men (2000)
12) X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
11) Captain America: Civil War (2016)
10) Big Hero 6 (2014)
09) Iron Man 3 (2013)
08) X2 (2003)
07) Spider-Man (2002)
06) Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
05) Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
04) Kick-Ass (2010)
03) The Avengers (2012)
02) Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
01) Spider-Man 2 (2004)

I feel that to really do this properly I’d have to re-watch a number of these again, when I first jotted it down and saw that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance had placed higher than Age of Ultron I was a bit surprised, but I re-watched Ultron recently and it’s a bad movie. Maybe if I re-watched Spirit of Vengeance or Punisher: War Zone again they’d drop, and I haven’t seen Kick-Ass in years but enjoyed it immensely upon release. Similarly with what ultimately got the number 1 spot. Anyway that’s it for now.
