My (not exactly) Top Ten films of 2012

Being an amateur reviewer poses some trouble when it comes to end-of-year lists for films. The majority of awards contender films are not only released at the very end of the year, but in many territories early the following one. Even then some of the smaller films don’t get a wide release and one may have to wait for the DVD release for a chance to see them. In short, it could end up being half way through 2013 before I can feel I’ve seen all the key films of 2012. Let’s look at some examples, I’ve not yet seen any of the following films, indeed most haven’t been released yet where I am; ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Django Unchained’, ‘Lincoln’, ‘Cloud Atlas’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘The Master’, ‘Hitchcock’, ‘The Hunt’, ‘Flight’, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, and probably a few more I can’t think of offhand. Anyway, a lot of these are showing up on best-of lists at the moment and I can’t include any, but here we go. In no particular order:

Searching for Sugar Man

End of Watch

The Dark Knight Rises

God Bless America

A Royal Affair

The following ten, or honourable mentions, would be thus:

‘The Imposter’, ‘Pieta’, ‘Ruby Sparks’, ‘Dark Horse’, ‘Looper’, ‘Bernie’, ‘The Cabin in the Woods’, ‘The Raid’, ‘Carnage’, ‘The Grey’
