Kim Ki-Duk wins Golden Lion for ‘Pieta’

I’ve mentioned Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-Duk several times here recently. I really enjoy his work and have been trying to make my way through his extensive filmography (he’s made an astonishing 18 features since 1996). I haven’t seen them all yet but he’s just received the biggest award of his career so far for his latest effort, ‘Pieta’ (피에타)

That is, it’s won the prestigious Golden Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival, beating even Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated ‘The Master’ to the top spot. It could be one of his best yet, and that’s really saying something. I can’t wait to see it.
